The urge to believe in our own world view, which is shaped by our belief system,
is our most powerful intellectual imperative.
Interestingly, our perception is strongly shaped by this, yet perception is reality.
Therefore, we create our own reality from our belief system and world view.

"What a lovely surprise to finally discover how unlonely being alone can be." ~ Ellen Burstyn

Peace is Absolutely Necessary:
As a retired military officer, my views of a serviceman's obligations to unquestionably obey have changed dramatically as more and more revelations have materialized about the start of both the Vietnamize War and the current "war on terrorism." As a result, I originally joined the Veterans for Peace organization, but found that most of its members were agressively against war, far more than they were For Peace. As a result, I quit and along with the now-ex president of that same VFP chapter, "founded" a local Rogue Vally organization doing what I had initiated in the VFP chapter, with most of the same material presented on (this website.
We actively applaud the courage shown by both active duty and Independent Ready Reserve (IRR) personnel such as reflected in this MSWord copy of Lt. Ehren Watada's Private War with the Army. (Incidently, attempting to charge Watada with "conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman," might be a bit difficult, since, before I was commissioned, the term "gentleman" was removed from the commissioning documentation - 'course they might have seen me coming and decided to suspend that word for "the duration." :-)

Managing/Positioning a Company vs Harvard MBA and Short Term ROI Philosophy:
In a recent (2008) Fortune magazine interview, CEO Steve Jobs was asked how he managed Apple through economic downturns. In his answer, Jobs began by referencing the last economic slide. "What I told our company was that we were just going to invest our way through the downturn, that we weren't going to lay off people, that we'd taken a tremendous amount of effort to get them into Apple in the first place -- the last thing we were going to do is lay them off," he said. "And we were going to keep funding. In fact we were going to up our R&D budget so that we would be ahead of our competitors when the downturn was over. And that's exactly what we did. And it worked. And that's exactly what we'll do this time." (Referring to the 2008 economic downturn).
I have seen far too many companies sacrificing marketing and R&D staff in rough times. From the professional, logical, Systems Engineering and long-term survivability standpoints, I have long advocated doing exactly the opposite, just as Steve Jobs had once advocated and successfully accomplished with Apple. I feel so strongly about this that I have made it an up-front point on this website.

Topic 2, SE Asia, Pictures & Comments from back-to-back January 2008 Cruises -
In a moment of weakness I signed up with Royal Caribbean for their Rhapsody of the Seas cruise around SE Asia almost a year before the cruise itself, supposedly at an early-sign-up discount price. Actually, if I'd have waited until the last minute, I could have saved quite a bit of money, but I didn't know that at the time. Regardless, I actually signed up for a back-to-back set of 12-day cruises, where the ship went from Singapore to Hong Kong, then turned around for a return cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore. Regardless of the $, it was an experience that will not be soon forgotten, and I think Royal Caribbean deserves kudos for attempting to open these ports. In order to maximize international understanding, I've prepared a series of pages as links from this page (below) from which selected pictures and some supplemental comments can be accessed.

Some passengers took excursions into the major cities, such as Saigon and Hanoi, but, except for Bangkok, I felt that "a city is a city" whether in Asia or wherever, and I primarily wanted to see how the everyday folks lived. Plus, for Saigon and Hanoi, the travel time each way from/to the port took up a large part of the day. Here are some of those scenes, most taken with my own camera, but some scanned in from postcards. If a page loads a bit slowly, there are probably too many images on it. If so, I can break up those pages later on. Generally, right-clicking on an image will provide a larger picture in a browser, and you can do whatever you'd like with it.

Beware of those Singapore "tailors," however. I succumbed to an unsolicited and aggressive sales pitch in the same complex as my hotel, and paid what I would consider as a hefty amount for some "personally tailored" clothing, but had to leave before a final fitting. When the clothes later arrived at my home and I began using them, I found a number of design/assembly faults that simply "shouldn't have been."

[Note that around the world, there have been an increasing awareness of elephant attacks. Although the elephant is considered (along with whales) one of the "more spiritually evolved animals" (ref: www.lprww.us, book 3, chapter 3, "Pets"), other privately channeled communication from "the other side" has identified elephants as bordering on rebellion. A couple reasons:
(1) in their wild state, "civilization" has often cut off their historic pathways to breeding or feeding grounds... grounds that may not have been traversed by that herd for a couple decades or longer, but are still in their memory banks, and
(2) even a "spiritually evolved" and "tame" animal can rebel, just as humans do, at either poor trainers/handlers, or from inappropriate reactions to buried and unresolved psychological "injuries."]

Vietnam, general (NOTE: "Return to Vietnam," is a good nostalgic article by Tom Hayden in the March 10, 2008 issue of The Nation. Two issues I would take with this article are: (1) the assumption that Vietnam's GDP equates to about a $2/day/capita income... I suspect it's much less, and (2) poverty has fallen to 20% "although the majority of ethnic minorities and rural Vietnamese still live in poverty"... where does he think the population really is, except in rural areas?)

Topic 3 - Ecology, Urban Ground Water Recovery

French Drains

Many people install French drains to control runoff or standing water which can cause building damage or erosion. As a result of a 2-1/2 inch rainfall in two days, I had a quite exasperated neighbor come to my door and complain about the drainage from my yard draining into his crawl space, necessitating his acquisition of a sump pump. At the first opportunity after that, I contracted to have a French drain installed in my yard that would handle the downspouts from about 1/2 of my roof.
But an additional environmental benefit is that the water is diverted from running into the street and instead is redirected into the ground where it recharges the water table.

An internet search on the topic of French drains in July 2008, resulted in 178,000 references, but only a few that contained good information on water drainage and a variety of drainage techniques.

Topic 4 - Alternative Energy Developments
As a result of a presentation at the Rogue Valley Metaphysical Library on October 2, 2007, I have been doing some investigating in this arena and it appears there is quite a bit to uncover in a variety of technologies - another area that our press has been afraid to address, OR has not been allowed to report on - hard to say. Like any field it takes a little time to separate the wheat from the chaff - the "real" from the bogus - but, as with many topics today, there may well be more going on here than the media is willing to cover.

TRANSPORTATION - GENERAL
This is a rapidly expanding and changing field with MANY possibilities showing up almost daily, although with the fuel "crises," these improvements may not seem to be happening fast enough. Despite the problems with appropriate emphasis on this topic during the Bush administration, things really are moving on at that level. Check out the websites at http://www.nrel.gov and http://www.eere.energy.gov/vehiclesandfuels. It is, however, often difficult to differentiate at these websites what is being funded by our government and what is commercial R&D.

TRANSPORTATION - ETHANOL APPLICATIONS
Am I biased on this topic? Absolutely!

(1) Almost immediately after the U.S. government passed legislation to rely on ethanol, as I had openly feared and predicted, corn prices in Brazil rose to the extent that many people could no longer afford it. This then encouraged an incentive for clear-cutting more tropical forests to plant more corn, thereby reducing the ability of that forest to handle CO2, while that soil that previously supported a tropical forest was depleted in three years or less. In Mexico many farmers' decisions to grow corn for ethanol use, rather than tortilla production, caused corn prices to soar there, as well.
(2) On Friday, March 28, 2008, corn futures posted at $5.61/bushel, a gain of 40.6 percent in the last six months.
(3) Technically, there are serious doubts that the U.S. could produce any more than about 10% of the amount needed to achieve oil independence, and at production efficiencies that are highly questionable, including the large amounts of water needed.

“The Oregon Legislature passed a renewable fuel mandate in 2007 and it's being phased in around the state now, according to the Oregon Department of Agriculture. “The rule requiring blending gasoline with 10 percent ethanol went into effect in nine northeastern counties Jan. 15, in Jackson County and eight other Southern Oregon counties April 15 and will take effect in the rest of the state, mostly east of the Cascades, Sept. 16. The federal Department of Energy reports that one gallon of gasoline generates about 115,000 Btu while ethanol generates 76,000 Btu. (A Btu, by the way, is a British thermal unit, a measure of the amount of energy required to heat a pound of water 1 degree Fahrenheit.) With less energy available, ethanol won't move your car as far. “Official projections from the state estimate that the E10 blend cuts into mileage about 3 percent. American Coalition for Ethanol, a trade group that promotes the fuel, estimates a drop of just 1.5 percent, which it claims is less than wind speed, stop-and-go driving and tire pressure. However, drivers anecdotally report (milage) drops of up to 10 percent.”

Will this decreased performance reflect a decrease in fuel prices at the pump? Don't count on it.

ALTERNATIVE ENERGIES - 2 (Some "Approved" Approaches)
"Googling" the following topics provides a large number of listings (as of May 5, 2008):

  • "Solar cell" created over 1.5 million hits. One web site the presents a basic discussion of the topic is http://www.researchsolar.com/how-solar-works. For homes and businesses in Oregon, there's http://www.energytrust.org and, likewise in the Bay area at http://www.noutilitybill.com.
    At this site http://www.sunpowercorp.com, you can estimate what a standard solar collector system might cost and the potential annual savings for most areas. Although this site, http://www.skypowersystems.com, is primarily for the N. CA area, it also has some good discussions of what the solar collection system is all about.
    For a new approach in solar system installation, which promises to revolutionize the home retrofit industry and the one that I have signed up for, try http://www.solarsolutionsnow.net, or http://renu.citizenre.com, (same company).
    However the newer technology of "plastic photovoltaic cells" generated only 74 hits, with one of them being a simplified (.pdf) paper on the topic;

  • "Wind power" created 5.8 million hits, but "helical wind turbine" gets only 109 hits... this is a "new design" concept that can have either a vertical or horizontal axis, can sometimes be mounted on a roof top and does not engender the limitations and objections that the more conventional designs do (the rotor is often a "DNA design," as shown below)... while there are debates concerning the relative merits of horizontal vs vertical configurations, as an ex-mechanical (aero) engineer, I would prefer the horizontal because of the balanced axial loads on the shaft, but the vertical design can use wind from more directions.
    Windhaus Vertical Windmill Windhaus Vertical Windmill The newest idea for harvesting the wind is nearly 900 years old. Vertical windmills, like the large tower from Windaus Turbines of Ontario, at http://www.windausenergy.com, and the Tangarie design concept, at http://www.tangarie.com, can potentially crank out 50 percent more power than conventional designs. Although remains of foundations for vertical windmills dating to 1150 have been found in France, it is only with the advent of lightweight composites that this design concept has become practical. These manufacturers believe the inherently quiet operation of vertical turbines will also spur wider interest in wind power.

  • "Wave power" created 6.2 million hits, including this 32 page "pdf" brochure from www.wave-energy.net/Library/WaveEnergyBrochure.pdf and www.sri.com/news/releases/080307.html;

  • "Ocean current power" creates only 405 hits, including this 7 page "pdf" white paper at http://www.ocsenergy.anl.gov/documents, a good all-round website of information. However, according to an Associated Press story in August 2008, a Maine company at http://www.oceanrenewablepower.com, is pioneering work, at least within the U.S., for using tidal change energy.

  • However, "12 volt house current" creates only 240,000 hits. Why is that, when this is a proven technology that, when coupled with even "conventional" solar cells and a "standard" bank of batteries, can provide virtually free power? I became acquainted with this power approach when I was interested in "roughing-it" in the greater NW with a stack-wall self-build house and self-generated electricity. Of course, it is difficult to use this level of power for heating or cooling, but that can be accommodated in other ways. A simple technical-level primer can be found at http://www.newenergywatch.com;

  • "Waste conversion" resulted in 201,000 hits, with various governmental agencies finally getting into the act, with the key processes being gasification and/or pyrolsis (as an example, see the Los Angeles County discussions at http://ladpw.org/epd/tf/conv_tech.cfm). This is a win-win situation, by decreasing landfill needs while, generating electricity, heat or creating synfuels. One of our favorite websites for this technology is http://www.cleansolutionsco.com.
    Meanwhile, a search on the term "plasma gasification" resulted in 23,400 hits, with a very good explanation at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_arc_waste_disposal;

  • Then there's "river power" that only created 44 hits, but with one consolidated site at http://www.peswiki.com/energy/Directory:River_Energy;

  • "Catching the wind..." only had 115 hits, with the most descriptive being at http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/07_41/b4053092.htm, which is a way of storing wind power without using batteries (similar to Tara's air car???).

ALTERNATIVE ENERGIES - 3 (Some "Unknown" or Often-Ridiculed Approaches)
Here is one website that covers a wide range of technologies: The Inside Story On Cold Fusion, Plasma-type devices, Solid-state devices, Hydrogen Gas Cell, Magnetic Motors, Hydrosonic or Cavitation Devices and Zero-Point Energy] in ONE location: http://newconnexion.net/kaplan/home.html |

Here is another resource, The New Energy Foundation, with a magazine "Infinite Energy" and various books that address a wide range of alternate energy concepts and (often) why they haven't been advertised to the public by a Luddite-like scientific community and media. As I've so strongly pointed out in many other technologiy areas at www.lprww.com, Technologies Today, “This shows that a Ph.D. is no guarantee against foolishness.” NOTE: http://www.infinite-energy.com |

Here's another very interesting website along similar lines, although I don't have the background to properly evaluate this technology: http://www.blacklightpower.com/new.shtml |

Topic 5 - New Projects
(Constantly Under Construction :-)
Native American Spirituality - A Literature Search, because I'm now too old to do it in person :-)

The purpose of this is to attempt to analyze the original liturgy and stated belief systems of as many N. American tribes as possible to better determine their underlying belief in a central single-god-like "source." "Original," in this sense, refers to before the white man began changing their collective belief systems. Because of the time lapse involved, this seems to be much more difficult for the Eastern/North Eastern tribes, where European sources may have to be researched because of their potential for greater objectivity at that earlier time.

The following is an interesting quote from Vine Deloria, Jr., as presented at http://puffin.creighton.edu/lakota/teaching.html, and illustrates the difficulties of such an endeavor:
"For some time in the past the effort was to try and discover if and whether the Indians had arrived at the concept of a creator and/or monotheistic religion (Schmidt's effort to show a 'High God' in North American Native religions is characteristic of this phase). This effort, in my opinion, was fruitless and simply was a means of making Indian religion respectable enough that it could be fit into existing intellectual frameworks. For instance, James Walker's re-arrangement of Sioux spiritual entities into a hierarchy of 'gods' demonstrated again that Indian material could be placed in a Western European framework of interpretation."

An interesting correlation has popped up, however, in that the term "Wakan Tanka" is a term for the Great Spirit that is commonly attributed to the Lakota Sioux, yet Ken Carey's book "Return of the Bird Tribes" also seems to attribute the term to the Iroquois Nation from long before the white man appeared.

Note to myself: A good 'beginner's reference' for this subject can be found at http://www.native-languages.org/religion.htm, while the same website, a different page lists individual tribal descriptions at http://www.native-languages.org/languages.htm.

Personal Readings - selected quotes :-)
As an expansion of the the "Spiritual Library," I have a quite large collection of personal reading audio tapes that should include snippets of use to the general population buried within the personal information. Having obtained a copy of Dragon, I intend to convert these tapes to the written word to extract these general "truths" before wiping the tapes magnetically clean. Depending upon the volume of this material, either large or small modification to the "Spiritual Library" pages may be effected.

Topic 6 - Intuition & Inspiration
(Under Construction)

This section is inspired by the works of Henry James and Abraham Maslow, as well as my own personal experiences as documented in the LPR Library, Book #1: "Engineering Your Spirituality:" Chapter 7, "Experiences & Effects" and Appendices 3 & 4, "Personal Spiritual Experiences" and "An Opening Spiritual Heart: A Personal Experience," respectively. I have no idea exactly where this topic is going, overall, but I would be very interested in seeing what others might have experienced, without drug assists. If you have had such an experience, email me at "director@lprww.us".

Topic 7 - Aliens Among Us -

(A) The original intent of establishing this page was to document my own surprise and rapidly growing awareness of the depth of the ET/Earth issue as a result of preparing for a presentation I was to make in June, 2007. However, I have found that, again, it is so easy to get lost in the details as they evolve and lose everyone else in the process, as well. Therefore, this page is intended to present a synopsis of the key facts, along with many references as a backup.

(B) Other information I've recently come across, however, seems to indicate that this Earth may well not be in immediate danger: Extract from The Crystal Stair.
Plus, in a "confrontation" with one of the "baddies" by a relative novice that simply acted on an approach I suggested, seemed to have worked out quite favorably. In this case, a friend described a series of strong family problems having been initiated right after they had moved into a "new" farm rental that had experienced a heavy drug abuse history from the previous tenants. She had "seen" a presence on the property that somewhat unnerved her and her description matched one of the "baddie" ET species in the page referenced above. I described the pros and cons of the situation and how I would treat it. She insisted on addressing it herself and later, courageously and successfully, drove it off of the property, although she was conscious of it still "keeping an eye on the situation" to, perhaps, later make a recovery. Since she had been monitored by this entity in her discussion with me, I came under strong psychic attack that same evening, but, once I realized what was occurring, I managed to apply protection.

Somewhat later, this situation appeared to have repeated itself as detailed in this narrative, which strongly indicates, to me at least, that the situation with this species is quite manageable.

(C) Although I had, in fact, become "awakened" to the positive and negative ET presences between April and June 2007, I later found this transcript, A Personal Extra-Terrestrial Encounter, in my electronic files from my own personal ET encounter in the hills above Reno, NV, on 5/26/92. In '92, I'd had no idea of the deeper meanings of this information until coming across it again in 2007.

While, from a human standpoint, this might be a serious situation for Earth and humanity, I couldn't resist including a copy of a "business card" I had come across:

YOUR ATTENTION!

ALIENS ARE COMING TO ABDUCT ALL

THE REALLY GOOD LOOKING & SEXY PEOPLE.
